HELLO, My name is...

Hello!  My name is Rita, and I am excited to be Doodlekins' newest blogger!  I have been a big fan of Doodlekins since 2008, when I first ordered address labels to be put onto the thank-you notes for my son's first birthday.  Now he has turned FIVE years old, and will be starting Kindergarten in a few weeks!  Hard to believe.  He is now signing his own thank-you notes (with a charming combination of both uppercase and lowercase letters), and our Doodlekins address labels now have a little sister's picture next to his.  She is 2 years old, and tries as hard as she can to keep up with her big brother.  Though her chubby little legs can't run as fast as his, I have been very impressed with how she has hit baby milestones (like sitting up and crawling) and toddler milestones (like walking and potty training) faster than him!  You go, girl.

Let's see what else I should tell you... besides being a Doodlekins blogger, a Mommy, and a wife to my college sweetheart, I am also a teacher.  I have taught first grade for 4 years and third grade for 8 years.  If you do the math on that, it means that my first class of first graders just graduated from high school!  Wowow.  That actually might be harder to believe than my son heading off to Kindergarten, as I have a permanent picture of those children as little 6 year old cherubs in my head.  I saw one of my first students driving in the SuperTarget parking lot the other day, and I almost swerved into a car in surprise!  It was so surreal, but also so fun to see.  :)

I enjoy teaching, reading, watching movies (both at the theater and sappy Lifetime Original Movies), crocheting, baking, and planning birthday parties for my children.  Since my nearest family members live almost 12 hours away, I began my party blog "Crafty Party" in order to share pictures of my kids' party fun with those who could not attend them.  www.craftyparty.webs.com  I'm still catching my breath from my son's big "Star Wars (Clone Wars) Lego Birthday Party", which occurred about a week ago.  Brown pillowcase Padawan robes, pool noodle lightsabers, homemade Lego cakes with Star Wars figures all around, Obi-Wan Kabobies, Droid Doritos, and much more!  I haven't had the heart to take down the decorated black paper from my wall yet, and fortunately my husband understands.  It's been fun to still look at while we eat meals and go through our days.  Yes- "Five great years ago, In a galaxy not far away, A baby Jedi was born..."

Since I am a teacher, I may have a "Question of the Day" for you at times.  ;)  My first question is: How did you find out about Doodlekins, and what is your favorite product from them?  (OK, that's a two-part question...!)  As any good teacher will do, I will demonstrate my own thinking for you with my answer.  You already know that I stumbled on Doodlekins products in 2008 with their address labels for my son's thank you notes, and I have to admit that those adorable personalized labels still hold a special place in my heart.  But now I want the Doodlekins personalized COOKIES too!  And a tote bag for my kids each to use for their swimming lessons!  And I haven't decided if my son will take soccer lessons and my little daughter will take ballet- so maybe bags or shirts for them too?  The possibilities are endless!  My husband should be afraid, very afraid...  ;)

I look forward to hearing from you, or at least just entertaining you while you listen quietly!  Talk to you again soon,

    1. Thanks, Ann! I think my next party is going to include some adorable Doodlekin cookies or cupcakes too. For my son's recent Star Wars birthday party, I tried to get Doodlekins to make some Star Wars labels and signs for me, but something blah blah blah copyright blah blah... ;) I will have to go more generic for the next party, I suppose!

Thanks for the nice note! It brought a smile to my face on this rainy day. (Though in this drought we've had, the RAIN brought a smile to my face too!)

  2. Ann, thank you for saying hi to Rita!

So funny about the copyright... blah blah blah.... :) Yay for generic party! I saw THE cutest boy's construction work birthday cake:

    http://fredellicious.blogspot.com/2011/09/my-baby-turns-2.html

Not only is the toy bulldozer pushing cookie crumbs around the cake (so it doesn't have to be a perfect cake either!), but look at the INSIDE of the cake!!

We've got a construction worker guy coming to the Doodlekins lineup soon, and by next year, who knows what else?! We'll get a border going with orange cones and construction area tape for sure.

I can already see Mark building a box for the dirt the kids can dig treasures out of...

    It's a good rainy day now. :)

    1. That is SUCH a cute construction cake! And I love the *treasures* inside too (and the fact that it doesn't have to be perfect!) Thanks for sharing that, Doodlekins! And a construction worker doodle is coming to the line-up soon too? Fantastic! Between those and the box of dirt that my husband would be building for kids to dig treasures out of, you've got my next party all planned! Could do those "dirt cups" for snacks too, with the pudding and the crushed oreos and gummi worms... :)

I think my favorite generic party I've thrown so far has been the Rainbow Birthday Party for my daughter's 2nd birthday. It was so fun to make that 6-layered rainbow cake, and to research/think of rainbow crafts and activities to go with it! Plus she was adorable in that rainbow dress with rainbow hair bows. http://craftyparty.webs.com/rainbows Though the Cars party was fun to plan too! The car sandwiches were a hit with everyone, and the stoplight colored foods were easy to do. http://craftyparty.webs.com/cars-2 Yes, it will be a sad, sad day when my children want to have their birthday parties at a LaserTag facility and don't want their mom to embarrass them by being- visible!

Thanks for the ideas, and for the sweet notes Ann and Doodlekins! I'll be back soon with another blog post, and will need your help with the next Question of the Day. :)

  4. Teacha, you're just too much fun! Ann is a great new customer and we're so happy to see her get involved. I loved your rainbow party, I have to check out the Cars one too! I spend entirely too much time on your cute site.

I LOVE the dirt cups, that's PERFECT!! Start getting Caleb some construction sets, and some Bob the Builder videos, we've got to plant a seed!!! haha

Oh boy...question of the day??? Whatever could it be....

    1. I hope you enjoyed checking out the Cars Party I gave my son last summer! It was so much fun. :) Sounds like the construction party is looking good for next year! Now we just have to hope he is on board, and not after the newest fad (Angry Birds, Superhero Squad, etc.)

Ah Doodlekins, you have such great products to shower my son's Kindergarten teacher with this year! I already know what I'll be getting him/her for Christmas, birthday, Teacher Appreciation Week, etc. If I only knew their name NOW, I could give them a rockin' Doodlekins Beginning of the Year personalized teacher present! So that is my current Question of the Day (a creative teacher present to start the year off), and unfortunately I can't gift them with anything personalized at this point. So I'm looking for other ideas...

I can't wait to see what you unveil next! Keep up all the great work! :D
